First open your window, P O M (do not move away if there are any hazards on the footpath ahead) then with your speed slow (old person walking pace) fast steer applying full right lock (no dry steering) while observing the road to the right and left. (Observations every 2 seconds then look in opposite direction.) When you reach 2/3rds over the road steer 1 turn of the wheel to the left. NB reference point right wing mirror and kerb. Stop at 2nd reference point kerb under right wing mirror.
Put the hand brake on, select reverse then P O M keeping the speed slow apply full left lock. While reversing across the road observations should be over both shoulders and all mirrors, every 2 seconds check opposite direction when you reach 2/3rds over the road steer 1 turn right, reference point over right shoulder right side kerb on door near lock, stop before hitting kerb. NB 2nd reference point same area over right shoulder.
Put the hand brake on, select 1st or drive P O M then with your speed slow (old person walking pace) steer right and drive on. N B observations everywhere, when reversing to right kerb more observations over right shoulder as that side of the car is closer to the kerb. Keep looking for children and hazards, if people have given way to you be aware they may start to move when there is more room for them to move away.
Do not wave people through.
